Life is Strange is an episodic game with choices developed by “Dantnod Entertainment”. The first impression that the game shows to the audience is that it is based on the Butterfly effect which means that the main character has an ability to rewind the time. This special ability allows the character to make different choices through its journey in the game.

   One of the rules that the game contains is that the player is allowed to walk everywhere in the places which will open if it is correctly responded to a task. It is possible for the main character to look around at every part of the area that is available.

As an example, in Episode 1, the player who is manipulating the main character, is allowed to enter rooms of some of the supportive characters and to look around, to view pictures and even to look at Laptops and touch and open part of the furniture.  

In one of the ending parts of the episode, the main character has a task to go to the basement and to look around for a “Tiny tools” because right before this task it’s camera is dropped and broken and the game want it to be fixed. Even the player to know where is the main aim, it is necessary to look at every corner several times and to open every available part of the furniture, before to be allowed to look at the area where the actual “tiny tools” can be reached.

Аn improvement of this rule of the game is the player to be allowed to reach the tools that are needed for the task earlier and to be it’s own choice to look around more in the area  or to leave. Most of the things in the areas are unnecessary and that will improve even the interest in the player.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is a single-player game known very well since 2002, developed by Rockstar North. Every player who have played the game knows when tasks are given are followed by awards for the achievement and it is nessesary for the player to manipulate the main character in extreme positions.

 

 It is allowed to walk, run, drive, beat, kill etc., but the development has not yet reached altitudes. An example of the game rule is the player is not allowed to swim. If it is reached an altitude where the character’s head reaches the water then he is wasted.

The improvement in this game rule is that the character has to stay alive and to swim from a point to another point. This will increase the level of player audience.

Everwingis a game developed and published by Blackstorm Labs on Instant games on Messanger , an app created for the messages on Facebook.

 

The game is a scrolling shooter game ( vertical mode only )

Through the gameplay, different items and objects usually used as boosts have been dropped and the player have to collect them in order to be boosted and to damage more enemies and final bosses.

 

Every dragon that supports the damage on minsters has a zodiac sign. When two dragons which are one type and have reached level 10, canbe evolved into one dragon level 20.Every dragon is different zodiac sign and it doesn’t matter if they both are the same type of dragons. If both dragons are one zodiac sign the damage increases with 25%.But it very rare to collect two dragons which are the same type with the same zodiac sign.

 

The improvement will be if it is possible to involve dragons from one type but this game rule to be removed, because it is unnecessary.

UNREAL ENGINE 4

Unreal Engine 4 was presented to us, today. We learned about the basics in this game engine. Also, we had task in class, to build a house. Here are three screenshots of my first project, the house and my 3rd person (my unreal character made by the engine ).

Halo 5:Guardians - Analysis

Halo 5: Guardians is an incredible first-person (shooter)  game, released on 27th of October, 2015. It is the seventh released game in the Halo series, published by Microsoft Studios. The actual Developers of this popular production are 343 Industries. In general, the game’s reviews are positive and all of the critic’s opinions are directed to the Gameplay, the Visuals and also the Multiplayer mode, because when the production has been released, the Developers meant to add and Multiplayer mode and even the level design was is praised. But, another negative reviews are released because of the short slightly unclear story and more was expected in this seventh production. Halo 5: Guardians is oriented at the platform- Xbox One and has increased level of selling, as it releasing date till 2018 this game is in top 10 for “Top selling games”.

 

The whole story introduced in the game, takes place in the year of 2058 and it is meant to be eight months after the events of the previous game- Halo 4. The plot follows two Teams of Super-soldiers, humans: The Blue Team and the Fire Team- Osiris with it’s leaders. Every team has members with different abilities which are strictly individual, and each one carries a strong story behind its back.

The story follows several events and first of it is the team Osiris’s mission for rescuing   Dr. Halsey from Jul 'Mdama's forces, because of the important information that she has about series of Forerunner attacks on human colonies on other planets. After her successful extracting from this enemy, it is given an information from her for a new threat that is coming and is an emergency.

There is a new mission on the horizon, for The Blue team, about securing Argent Moon (derelict ONI research station). But a sabotage is done by the Covenant fleet the team receive coordinates from Cortana (Artificial Intelligence) for another planet. After an order from their spaceship Infinity for returning on board, the order is disobeyed and the Blue Team is under the guidance of Cortana. The turmoil triggers other events, because it is important Cortana to be stopped. Dr. Halsey is of the opinion that the AI will be unpredictable if a Forerunner technology is helping her to survive. That is the reason why the Fire Team Osiris has a task from Meridian (Universe) to capture the Blue Team and to return them all on Infinity. There are other events on their way, but the Blue Team is found and asked to return on their spaceship.

After their second refusal, therefore, is a clash between the leaders of the two teams, but only the crew without the leader is returned.  After the calm, Cortana is healed by the technology Forerunner and information for her plan has been provided. Cortina’s plan is to use all of the Guardians from the planets to create Galactic Peace by violent disarmament which will cause major damage.  She is convinced to stand down by the Blue Team’s leader, but this causes trouble and the Blue Team enters Forerunner’s prison where they are powerless.

 

All the Artificial Intelligences (similar to Cortana) across the Galaxy start obeying Cortana and her plan, and the last event happens. Infinity is found by the AI and wanted to be disabled. There are attempts for stopping and defeating her. While the Blue Team recovers, Osiris returns because of the reuniting of SPARTAN-IIs with- Commander Palmer, Thel'Vadam, and Dr. Halsey.

 

As we know, game mechanics are constructs of rules or playing methods to provide the gameplay. So, everything that the player does in the game is considered to a mechanic. For the physical interactions, 5the interface with which Halo5: Guardians is interacted is Xbox controller. It is a first person shooting game in which it is allowed to switch weapons while playing and also responding and giving commands to your team, which is important for a team building, Multi-player game.

A good feature in this game is that the player is allowed to jump and it has improvement – clamber jump, move the map and control the character at the same time by using Bumper Jumper mode. Also it is possible weapons to be switched from other MPC’s. The controller’s settings can be changed in need, to make it more adaptive for the confidence in the player while playing.

In the beginning, every player starts with a Pistol and Assault Rifle, the same as in Halo 3 which resembles the Classic Arena from Halo 3 and its beginning.  A series of weapons are provided for the player - Battle Rifle, Sniper Rifle, Rocket Launcher, Energy Sword etc. In Halo 5: Guardians, every character has new abilities and it is equipped with them from the beginning.

 

Part of the whole list of new mechanics are the new sprint abilities, they are providing for the pace while sprinting, because it is needed to be responsible, so that is why while sprinting the shields cannot be recharged and the base movement sprint and the speed were decreased.

 

Thruster ability (part of the armor) is also new, it cannot be spammed while Multi-player mode and it is with shorter cool-down which make it capable for better usage, also this new future helps for the better mobility in every movement. It has improved sliding, the character can shoot while sliding, it can slide a short distance and stop which is good for the balance and for fast reacting.

 

In general, the player has a fire-team of MPC’s , the you are all of the time available and can receive limited, and all of these are helping the characters to have different attributes.A lot of new attributes and abilities are included in this incredible AAA Game, which are helping for the players experience in the game.

 

In conclusion, Halo 5: Guardians has incredible graphics; its frame rate is 60 frames per second and the cinematics are incredible for the year of releasing (2015). From a visual point of view, the developers- 343 Industries, have provided very good mechanic improvements, character design and gameplay.  All the risks taken from the developers were rewarded because of the increased level of selling of the product which makes it precious.

As the variety of different names in different centuries, Rock Paper Scissor is zero- sum hand game played by two players, only simulating different shapes of their hands for each of the three words contained in the title of this game. A rock (shape – a fist), Paper (shape - a flat hand) and Scissor (shape – middle fingers forming “V”, other fingers – stowed away). Each loss is equal to another person’s gain.

It has four potential outcomes such as equality (0) which means the players are equal.  Rock (1) > Scissors (-1) – it crushes the scissors. Paper (1)> Rock (-1) – the flat hand covers the fist which means the paper gains the game. Scissors (1)>Paper (-1) – Scissors cut the Paper

The diagram shows the potential losing and wining and when both players are equal with each other. Rock and Rock = 0, Paper and Paper = 0, Scissor and Scissor = 0.  Scissor and Rock = -1 and 1. Rock and Paper = -1 and 1. Scissor and Paper = 1 and -1

Different mathematical strategies have been used for gaining, but there are still varieties of strategic conclusions including “The gain of the luck”. A Psychology research shows that the whole game is more of a psychology research rather than a common entertaining game, because of people’s strategies and calculations during the play. It is needed to be observable and use physical strategies.

Rase’n’Chase

GDD Analysis

 

The Games Design Document that it will be analyzed by me is Rase’n’chase. Let’s begin with the purpose of this Document. It is intended to be read by Programmers, Designers and Artists which are involved with the developing of the game. There is strictly individual content and part of it is the distributions of all parts of the game that have to be constructed. Also, page numbering and the usage of different types of text fonts are important part of the writing of this kind of document.

Let's start with the development of the document and the past period. The document, itself, is well structured and contains detailed information from the process of creating till the all the detailed explanations about the visual part of the game. It has been stated that the document has undergone several developments and has been obtained from the very beginning of 1.0 to 1.5, the end product we are looking at.

 As features, this game has well provided the throughout gameplay, from the action during the play to detailed explanation of the graphics which provides all the visual representation of the action.But there are some bad features about the game rules. For example, such as the explanation of when and how the player can look at the map. In the document, it is said that if the player is driving, it is needed to stop the car or get off the object, after that he is allowed to look at the map. It is not a convenience for the player to do this, because if there is a mission that needs to be completed and the player needs to interact with his character fast, this will slow down the process and whole entertainment will disappear soon.

Other apparent incomprehensibility is that it is not described, how the change of the weather in each city will affect the play, is it going to be harder to manipulate the character, is it going to be possible to drive vehicles and even completing tasks. There are some notes related to unexplained parts of the gameplay, but that does not affect the quality of this Games Design Document.

It is well known that, Race'n'chase is the first development of the series Grand Theft Auto 1, and the actual first game is GTA 1. A glitch with the police cars in Rase'n'chase became the main thing which completely transforms the game. The Design document shows to all involved people in this project, that the player can choose to play one of four different games (Bank Robbery (Robber); Bank Robbery (Cop); Demolition Derby; Cannonball Run). It is understood for the glitch, when through the gameplay, Police cars started acting weird and crazy, and ran into players, crashing around etc. This causes the team to reconstruct the game.

Grand Theft Auto 1 has the contents of Rase'n'chase, but the change from the initial design to the present production is visible. There is an example, in the Document is written that it is possible to run a game as a Police Officer (a Cop), but in GTA1 it is not. This rule has been removed and other improvement was released.

The earliest concept of GTA1 – The Game’s Design Document for Rase’n’chase, written in 1995 by Mike Dailly, is a very well-formed document with sufficient information, provided for the all team working on this game and its successor.

Angry Birds Classic – Interaction Diagram

Angry Birds is a fantasy based video and flash game, created by the company Rovio Entertainment. It is a casual puzzle video game released 2009.  As an example for the gameplay, the player is using slight shot for lunching different birds at pigs distributed in various positions and cross obstacles. The goal is pigs to be destroyed. The score is based on how many are destroyed. With every increasing level, different birds become available. The game is developed for iOS and Maemo devises. The level of selling about this product increases in the platform iOS where many purchases were done.

The diagram shows the interaction between the elements in the game.  The three main birds cannot interact, they cannot damage one another, because they are equal. The main aim is to beat pigs and to cross Obstructions which are Collision event – the bird can destroy the obstruction and pigs.  When Pigs or Obstructions are destroyed the is a Score event – you have two different scores for each.
